NASHVILLE AND CHATTANOOGA'S SCAR REMOVAL EXPERTS

The clinicians at SLK have studied scar removal and stretch mark removal extensively and have treated many types of scars. Our board-certified clinicians provide a combination of treatments to treat scars such as the following:

GROWTH FACTORS

Growth factors are small signalling molecules that signal your body produce new and healthier skin. At SLK, we heavily depend on growth factors to regenerate new skin and to encourage any wounds to heal without any scarring. At SLK we are knowledgeable in the various growth factors available on the market and we will guide you to the most high performing growth factors.

EXOSOMES

Have you ever wondered why salamanders can regrow a new tail without any signs of scarring? With exosomes, humans are one step closer to scarless healing. Exosome technology was researched and developed by the leading scientists and plastic surgeons in regenerative medicine seeking the most cutting edge biotechnology for skin regeneration. Exosomes contribute to the healing of injured or diseased tissues and organs. Human derived exosomes are the safer alternative to stem cell transpants, and can be applied to treatment of a variety of diseases including heart, kidney, liver, immune and neurological diseases, and skin wound healing.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GROWTH FACTORS AND EXOSOMES?

What is the difference between exosomes and growth factors? According to SLK‘s founder, Jennifer Stieber NP, “Growth factors grow new individual cells, whereas exosomes cause existing cells and new cells talk to each other, promoting repair and regeneration of organs and other tissues such as the skin or hair follicles.”

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA

Platelet-rich plasma is especially beneficial for healing acne scars. The clinical studies show that acne scar removal is best achieved by combining PRP with microneedling.

MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is used as a tool to “break up” scar tissue at a microscopic level. This helps with scar texture and also helps lift depressed or indented scars. Microneedling can also be used to “loosen” scars that are causing tight contractions of the skin. Microneedling is one of the most powerful and effective treatments for scars. Sometimes 6-12 treatments can be needed, spaced 4-8 weeks apart.

RADIOFREQUENCY

Radiofrequency treatments are effective for acne scars or more severe scars that involve a lot of collagen loss. Radiofrequency allows us to stimulate large amounts of collagen. Radiofrequency also has the added effect of skin tightening and lifting, so it is a popular option for C-section scars, or facial scars.

CHEMICAL PEELS

SLK uses Revepeel brand peels to treat scars. We have several peel formulas to choose from. Depending on the scar quality and color, your clinician will help you select the best peel for you. Ingredients in our Revepeel system like TCA help rebuild new collagen, while ingredients like arbutin or licorice extract help to lighten the color of dark scars.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers correct scars by plumping up the layers of skin beneath them. Dermal fillers can be made of several substances, including hyaluronic acid, collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid. Fillers not only add volume to depressed or indented areas, but also cause the body to produce its own layer of collagen and elastin, which also help to soften acne scars.

BOTOX

Botox is extremely helpful for preventing scars from developing or becoming larger. When a scar, scab, or laceration is very young, Botox can minimize muscle tension and activity near the scar so that the scar does not become thick or hypertrophic over time.

SCAR PREVENTION AND SCARLESS HEALING

The best way to prevent a scar is to treat it early. As soon as you get a cut or wound, please contact us for proper care. There are many skincare products we carry that can prevent the scar formation process.

Once a scab falls off, we can begin more invasive treatments like microneedling. Early intervention greatly increases the likelihood we can make a scar disappear. The older a scar is, the more difficult it becomes to remove.
